M42 – The Orion Nebula

This is my first attempt at M42 with my current scope and camera, and I’m quite pleased with my final results. I was hoping to get more time with it, but I have a very short window where Orion is visible from my back yard. Had just enough time to get the images I needed.

This image is constructed of 41 light frames, 20 at 30 seconds, and 21 at 60 seconds both shot with an ISO of 400. Also included is 30 dark frames, 25 flat frames, and 34 bias frames. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and post processing done in Photoshop. Did the typical levels and curves adjustment, then I boosted vibrance and saturation a bit to bring out a little more color.

Equipment:
Omni XLT 150 with CG-4 mount
Canon 350D
T-ring and adapter
Intervalometer
Polar Scope for alignment
