What are these fractal things anyway?

Fractals come in many shapes and colors. They are derived from mathematical formulas. From the wiki: “Fractal art is a form of algorithmic art created by calculating fractal objects and representing the calculation results as still images, animations, and media. It is a genre of computer art and digital art which are part of new media art. The Julia set and Mandlebrot sets can be considered as icons of fractal art.”

Fractals also appear in nature. Have you ever seen a fern curled up? A mountain range? Or a river? Maybe a snails shell?  Then you have seen fractal geometry in nature :) Pretty crazy stuff isn’t it? They are all around us in the sky, the river, the land and even down to our own bodies. Our circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems are all examples of fractals in physiology.

Fractal art can take many forms. Some being strictly evolved from Mandelbrot  & Julia sets, others are more free form. There is endless variety and infinite wonder to behold! When the worlds of the sciences and art combine, such beautiful things can happen.
